Ingredients:
1 cup elbow macaroni cooked according to package directions
1 1/2 cups white sauce (recipe to follow)
1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
buttered crumbs
WHITE SAUCE
3 Tablespoons butter
3 Tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 1/2 cups whole milk
salt and pepper to taste (i also used about 1/4 tsp paprika for colour)
BUTTERED CRUMBS
1 sleeve round buttery crackers, crushed (i.e., townhouse)
3 Tablespoons melted butter
Directions:
Step 1: Prepare the oven and preheat to 190 degrees C or 375 degrees F.
Step 2: Apply cooking spray in a 2.75-quart Pyrex baking dish.
Step 3: Refer to the directions provided on the package of the macaroni on how to cook it. Drain and rinse with cold water to stop the cooking process.
Step 4: Place a saucepan on the stove and turn the heat to medium.
Step 5: Add the butter and allow it to melt.
Step 6: Add the flour and stir until well mixed.
Step 7: Add the milk gradually and beat until well mixed. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Cook until the texture becomes thick.
Step 8: Remove the saucepan from the heat and add the cheese. Stir until melted completely.
Step 9: Add the cooked macaroni and toss until well coated with the sauce.
Step 10: Transfer everything into the baking dish.
Step 11: In a mixing bowl, add the butter and crush crackers. Stir until well mixed.
Step 12: Sprinkle the mixture over the macaroni.
Step 13: Place the baking dish inside the preheated oven and bake for about 30 minutes or until done.
Step 14: Remove from the oven and allow it to cool at room temperature.
