You have not tasted the best spaghetti if you haven’t tried this sauce yet! Oh, man, you have got to give this recipe a try, I’m telling you! Ingredients:
1.5-pound extra lean ground beef 2 lbs if not using hot Italian sausage
1 pound Hot Italian Sausage casings removed
1 tablespoon Olive Oil
1 large onion diced
1 green bell pepper diced
4 cloves garlic minced
1 c white wine beef broth works too
1 28 ounces can crushed tomatoes
1/2 can tomato paste 4 oz can
1 jar marinara sauce I like Safeway O Organics
1 teaspoon oregano
1 teaspoon thyme
2 bay leaves
1 tablespoon sugar
1 teaspoon sea salt
1/2 – 1 teaspoon crushed red pepper start small and increase the heat by taste
2 tablespoons dried parsley
1/2 c Parmesan cheese
Directions:
Place a large pot on the stove and turn the heat to medium.
Add the beef and hot Italian sausage. Cook until brown. Remove from the pot onto a clean plate, then discard any excess grease.
In the same pot, add olive oil and allow it to become hot.
Add the onion and green pepper. Saute until translucent.
Add the garlic and saute until aromatic.
Add the wine and scrape the bottom of the pot to get the brown bits. Simmer for 2 minutes or until it reduces its volume.
Add the tomato paste, tomatoes, oregano, 1 jar of marinara sauce, bay leaves, sugar, crushed pepper flakes, and salt. Stir until well mixed. Let it simmer for a few minutes.
Put the meat back into the pot, then stir until well combined. Cover it with a lid.
Simmer everything for an hour on a low setting.
Add the Parmesan cheese and freshly chopped parsley. Stir until well mixed.
Simmer for another 30 minutes.
Serve over pasta and sprinkle a generous amount of Parmesan cheese on top.
Serve and enjoy!
