This is a bowl of incredibly flavorful yellow rice flavoured with butter, turmeric, garlic, and onion. The delicious aroma of this soft and fluffy garlic turmeric rice is inviting and addicting. Throw this together in under twenty minutes and serve this garlic turmeric rice with any meals. This garlic turmeric rice has been part of our rotation for years now. It’s versatile with vibrant colour, divine taste, and heavenly aroma.
INGREDIENTS
1 teaspoon turmeric
2 c. basmati rice or your choice of long-grain rice, rinsed and drained
2 tablespoons unsalted butter or coconut oil
4 cloves garlic minced
1/2 medium onion finely diced
3 c. chicken stock or vegetable stock
chicken kebabs or any grilled veggies, seafood, or meat to serve
1/2 teaspoon salt or to taste
1/4 teaspoon black pepper or to taste
How to make Garlic Turmeric Rice (Yellow Rice)
Step 1: On medium heat, melt the butter. Add the onion and garlic once the butter has melted and bubbling and saute for approximately 2 minutes or until aromatic. Now, add the turmeric and mix until blended. Add the rice and stir until the grains are evenly coated.
Step 2: Pour in the stock and season with salt and pepper. Mix well until combined. Bring the mixture to a boil. Put the lid on and decrease the heat, then simmer for approximately 15 minutes. When done, take the garlic turmeric rice off the heat and keep it aside for at least 5 minutes. After 5 minutes, fluff the rice using a fork.
Step 3: Serve and enjoy!
NOTES:
Place any leftovers in an airtight container and store them in the fridge for up to 4 days or in the freezer for up to 3 months.
Reheat the rice in a pot or microwave until steaming hot. Although, I would not suggest reheating the rice more than once.
